Agile shimming: Audi introduces new technology in body shop

In their quest for perfect accuracy, body shop workers at Audi often use fine shims to adjust equipment by tenths of a millimeter. “Agile shimming”, which is used on the two-way framer at the Audi Sport plant at Böllinger Höfe, is a unique technology within the group. Shimming during the fitting of the exterior side parts was automated at one location and connected to the in-line measurement station via a control circuit. An algorithm automatically adjusts the actuators. Audi employees from Neckarsulm and Ingolstadt developed the technology together.

Audi opens new primer facility in Neckarsulm

Ceremonial inauguration at the Neckarsulm site: Audi opened the new primer building on the factory premises in the presence of more than 200 guests. The facility sets new standards in the automotive industry with sustainable technologies and processes and is suitable for both combustion and electric vehicles. The top coat plant is also currently being restructured until 2025. With the renovation of the paint shop, AUDI AG is making a targeted investment in the site and gearing it towards a sustainable future.

Audi A5: efficient and sustainable production in Neckarsulm

With the new Audi A5 family, the first models based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) with partially electrified drive systems and new electronic architecture are rolling off the production line in Neckarsulm. The brand with the four rings is consistently gearing vehicle production towards sustainability. The goal: In line with the "360factory" production strategy, all models manufactured at the Neckarsulm site from 2025 will be net carbon-neutral. To achieve this, Audi is relying on more efficient production lines, a higher degree of automation, and innovative technologies. From 2025, the renovated paint shop will be one of the most modern in the automotive industry.

It was 125 years ago that Audi founder August Horch started A. Horch & Cie., his very first company. Audi Tradition is celebrating the prestigious anniversary with a new special exhibition. Open from June 10 to December 31 at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm, it showcases premium exhibits framed by renowned opera houses – hence the title: “Grand Opera – 125 years of Horch”.

Trainee project at Audi Neckarsulm: NSU Prinz with e-tron power

Family Day debut: To mark the 150th anniversary at the Audi site in Neckarsulm, twelve apprentices at the Four Rings electrified an iconic classic car. On July 8, trainees from the automotive mechatronics, bodywork, and vehicle construction mechanics and painting courses proudly unveiled the "EP4”. The "E" stands for electric drive, and the "P4" for the NSU Prinz 4, a model produced in Neckarsulm by NSU Motorenwerke from 1961 to 1973.

Audi begins roll-out of artificial intelligence for quality control of spot welds

Audi is pushing forward with the digitalization of its production activities. Following a successful pilot project, the brand with the four rings has begun rolling out an artificial intelligence (AI) system for quality-control of spot welds in car body construction. The AI was developed and tested beforehand at the Neckarsulm site. By the end of the year, the technical infrastructure for the use of AI will be installed at three other Volkswagen Group locations. The project also serves as a use case for the Automotive Initiative 2025 (AI25) launched by Audi.

150 years of “Innovation. Wagemut. Transformation”: new special exhibition on the traditional brand NSU

Two partners, one theme: NSU. In 2023, Audi and the city of Neckarsulm are celebrating 150 years of the traditional brand NSU. That is reason enough for Audi Tradition and the Deutsches Zweirad- und NSU-Museum Neckarsulm (German Motorcycle and NSU-Museum Neckarsulm) to reassert the long history of Audi’s Neckarsulm site and the history of NSU in the new special exhibition “Innovation. Wagemut. Transformation. 150 Jahre NSU” (in English: “Innovation. Audacity. Transformation. 150 Years of NSU”). The exhibition will be on display from June 14, 2023 to May 5, 2024 in the Audi Forum Neckarsulm and the Deutsches Zweirad- und NSU-Museum Neckarsulm. Additionally, an anniversary magazine is being published at the start of the exhibition: a solid 176 pages covering many facets of NSU history.

Audi invests in the future: Topping-out ceremony for paint shop and groundbreaking ceremony for a water circuit

New processes, and more environmentally compliant methods, including for future electric models: The renewal of the paint shop at the Neckarsulm site continues. The topping-out ceremony for its base coat production section was celebrated on May 30. The facilities are being renewed, and processes optimized for future electric models. Around 300 guests were invited for the topping-out ceremony. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new water supply system took place in a smaller gathering shortly before. A closed water circuit with the municipal wastewater treatment plant reduces the Neckarsulm site's use of fresh water during production.

Audi takes hybrid working to the next level with a new company agreement

Audi is consistently driving the hybrid working world of the future within the company. On October 1, 2022, the company agreement "Hybrid Working" will come into force at the Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm sites. The company agreement provides for an even higher degree of flexibility for employees. They are free to choose their place of work and there is no requirement for fixed days in the office. The expansion of desk sharing, the redesign of office space and financially supporting employees in ergonomically working remotely are making remote and on-site work even more compatible.

Audi is donating nearly one million euros to the 42Heilbronn and 42Wolfsburg programming schools. The funds will go toward a four-year scholarship program at the privately funded, nonprofit IT schools. In doing so, the company is strengthening the regional educational environments for the digital transformation of the German automotive industry and an innovative vocational training program. In addition, the scholarships give financially and socially disadvantaged students the opportunity to receive highly qualified training in professional fields of the future.

Audi Forum Neckarsulm

The Audi Forum Neckarsulm creates experiences for visitors from the region and far beyond. Since opening in May 2005, the Audi Experience at the Audi site in Neckarsulm has been a focal point for guests and fans of the brand with the four rings. It serves as the portal to the plant during the day and is freely accessible to all visitors. In the evening the building transforms into a versatile stage for events. Up to 1,800 fans can then cheer to a pop concert or attend readings by book authors.
