Jazz at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt: a tribute to Django Reinhardt

Five lifelong musicians in the footsteps of the great Django Reinhardt and his partner Stéphane Grappelli: On November 14, the quintet featuring guitarist Joe Bawelino and violinist Romeo Franz will demonstrate that gypsy swing in the style of Reinhardt and Grappelli has not in any way gone out of fashion. As part of the Jazz at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt concert series, they will present an exhilarating Django Reinhardt Night at the Audi museum mobile.

When they hear guitar and violin, music fans immediately think of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. In their legendary Hot Club de France, established in Paris in 1932, the duo brought an entirely new and unique voice to jazz. At the Django Reinhardt Night, Romeo Franz and his son Sunny, both violinists, and guitarists Joe Bawelino and Sascha Reinhardt, joined by Michael Schönreich on the upright bass, will keep the memory of these two unforgettable artists alive.

The five musicians blend the popular side of gypsy jazz with groovy bass, swinging guitar chords, and electrifying violin solos. Romeo Franz is famous as the composer of “Mare Manuschenge,” a melody in memory of Europe’s persecuted Sinti and Roma population. At just 24 years old, Franz’s son Sunny is carrying on the family tradition. The quintet gives a new shine to a genre that is often misunderstood without taking away its artistic and entertainment value. They will perform live at the Audi museum mobile on November 14 at 8 pm.

After Work Jazz Lounge and “Merry Swinging Christmas”

This November, the After Work Jazz Lounge will once again offer free jazz in the evenings. On November 7, the Jazz Of Course trio featuring singer Jens Hunecke, pianist Dirk Rutenbeck, and upright bassist Michael Meyer will perform. They are followed by saxophonist and clarinetist Reinhold Bauer and guitarist Dietmar Liehr on November 21. Both concerts start at 6 pm at the Audi Forum Bar & Lounge.

At the end of the month, join in the outdoor “Merry Swinging Christmas” when C’est Si Bon (November 28) and the Rudi Trögl Trio (November 30) swing at the Social Christmas Market at the Audi Piazza; both concerts start at 6 pm and are free.
