The so-called Schlörwagen – also known as the “Göttingen Egg” – had a drag coefficient (cD) of 0.186 – still unmatched today. It was named after the designer Karl Schlör, from Westhofen-Dirmstein, who developed it at the Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt (Aerodynamics Research Institute) in Göttingen between 1937 and 1939. The “Göttingen Egg” is on display in the special exhibition “Streamlined? Aerodynamic concepts in automotive engineering until 1945”, which will be open until June 9, 2024, in the Audi museum mobile in Ingolstadt.
