Audi customer team keeps DTM title fight exciting

The DTM audience is experiencing an exciting phase in the title fight: Kelvin van der Linde initially had to relinquish the lead in the standings in the first race on Saturday at the Sachsenring, but on Sunday he regained it in the Audi R8 LMS from ABT Sportsline. As a result, the battle for the championship title in the traditional racing series remains completely open. Eight podium finishes in Asia round off a strong race weekend for the GT3 sports car. Audi customers are also among the leaders in touring car racing. Victories in Asia and Europe underline the strengths of the Audi RS 3 LMS in international sprint and endurance competitions.

500th title for Audi Sport customer racing

September began with a milestone for Audi Sport customer racing: Since the start of the program in 2009, customer teams worldwide have regularly won titles with the Audi R8 LMS in the GT2, GT3 and GT4 variants as well as the Audi RS 3 LMS TCR touring car in overall drivers championships and many other championship classes. Now the 500th title in total has gone to an Audi customer team: Richard Boake won the Sports Car Championship Canada powered by Michelin. In doing so, he also continued an unusual series for the Audi RS 3 LMS in this country. Race victories with the GT3 version of the Audi R8 LMS at the ADAC Racing Weekend and two class wins for the GT2 version in Spain rounded off a convincing international motorsport weekend for the customers.

Audi customer teams in Italy and Japan first class

Audi’s customer teams collected trophies worldwide on the penultimate weekend in August and maintained excellent positions in the standings in numerous racing series. In Italy, Team Tresor Audi Sport Italia took the overall lead following its first victory of the season with the Audi R8 LMS GT3. In the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS, the GT3 sports car recorded its third victory of the season. Further trophies in Australia and Europe rounded off the good results of the race weekend. European driver teams also returned with trophies in the GT2 and GT4 versions of the sports car. The Audi RS 3 LMS contributed to a convincing weekend for Audi Sport customer racing with a total of seven podium results.

Plenty of excitement in the DTM thanks to Audi customer team

Three Audi customer teams prove their strength in the second half of two championships: while ABT Sportsline turned the tide in the DTM with Kelvin van der Linde in wet weather at the Nürburgring and retook the lead of the standings, two teams were successful in North America with the Audi R8 LMS. James Sofronas took his first win of the season in GT America powered by AWS, while Johnny O’Connell maintained his lead in the standings with two podium finishes. Audi Sport customer racing also had a good weekend in touring car racing. Team LV Racing won four trophies with the Audi RS 3 LMS at a race weekend in Estonia.

Successful Audi customer teams in Germany and Great Britain

Two Audi Sport customer racing teams prevailed in two different racing series for private drivers thanks to the qualities of the Audi R8 LMS. In Great Britain, PB Racing by JMH continued its winning streak in endurance racing, while the équipe vitesse team was delighted with its first victory of the season in the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy in Germany. Further podium results at the ADAC Racing Weekend and in the Thailand Super Series underlined the strong form of the GT3 sports car. In the Sports Car Championship Canada presented by Michelin, the tension is rising after two Audi customer teams each achieved a victory with the RS 3 LMS. This means that three Audi privateer drivers are in the top three positions in the standings ahead of the finale. In Asia, the Audi RS 3 LMS scored its fifth victory in six races of the TCR China Challenge.

Strong start to August for the Audi customer teams

The customer teams in numerous countries are preparing for exciting championship decisions in the coming weeks. In Australia and Europe, several Audi Sport customer racing teams got off to a good start into August with victories and further successes. In TCR Australia, the private touring car team Tufflift Racing is at the top of the standings with the Audi RS 3 LMS, while the GT3 sports car continues to be among the front runners there with victories for the Shaw & Partners/Kelso Electrical and Team BRM/ACM Finance teams. Newcomer Petr Fulín recorded his first GT3 victories with Audi in Eastern Europe, while the amateur drivers of équipe vitesse extended their lead in the standings in two categories of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie with a class win.

Jonathan Wheatley will be Team Principal of the future Audi F1 factory team

Only a few days after the realignment of the management team for the future Audi F1 factory team with the appointment of Mattia Binotto, the next step has now been taken. With Jonathan Wheatley, Audi has acquired the services of a further top-ranking expert for its ambitious F1 project. “I am delighted that we have been able to gain Jonathan Wheatley as Team Principal for our future Formula 1 team,” says Gernot Döllner, CEO of AUDI AG. “Jonathan has played a major part in many Formula 1 race victories and World Championship titles in his Formula 1 career so far, and has extensive experience in the paddock. He is a very valuable addition to our team.“

Audi customer success in the southern hemisphere

Two Audi customer teams ended July with important successes. In South Africa, privateer driver Arnold Neveling continued his winning streak from previous races in the Extreme Supercars driven by Dunlop. Saintéloc Racing achieved an important strategic interim success in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. The French Audi privateer outfit celebrated its second class victory of the year at the third event. This gave Sébastien Chetail’s team an advantage in the title fight for the Gold Cup standings with two races to go. At Volkswagen’s big GTI fan festival, the many visitors were also able to admire the original winning car of the 2024 Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Audi R8 LMS from SCHERER SPORT PHX.

Mattia Binotto takes over a leadership position for Audi in Formula 1

Preparations for entering the highest class of motorsports are going full speed ahead at Audi. As part of the complete takeover of all shares in Sauber Holding AG and the associated realignment of the control structure, the management of the future Audi factory team is now being renewed. On August 1, the former F1 team head Mattia Binotto is joining the Audi F1 project and will take on its leadership in Hinwil.

Audi customers score GT3 and TCR victories on two continents

The third weekend of July saw Audi customers celebrating trophies on either side of the Atlantic. The highlights of the success for the Audi R8 LMS in GT3 racing include overall victories and drivers leading their respective championships following races in France and the USA, as well as a strong 1-2 class result in Germany. In the TCR category, the Audi RS 3 LMS was again on top in Canada and took an additional win in TCR Spain.

Audi customers lead the standings in TCR Italy

Customer racing successes were concentrated on southern Europe during the second weekend in July: Audi customer teams achieved podium results with the Audi RS 3 LMS at Mugello, Italy, and are leading four of the TCR Italy championship classifications. In the Campionato Italiano Gran Turismo Endurance at the same venue, an Audi R8 LMS also finished in the top three. The Audi R8 LMS GT2 celebrated an overall victory and second place in the Campeonato de España GT in Spain. The weekend was rounded off with a class win in Portugal for the GT4 version of the Audi R8 LMS.

Audi makes history: for the first time, a low-emission prototype with an electric drive, high-voltage battery and energy converter wins the world’s toughest desert rally with the Audi RS Q e-tron. The Spaniards Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz secured Audi’s first victory in the Dakar Rally after around 7,900 kilometers with a lead of 1h 20min.
