Impressive appearance: the new Audi A5 family on the Côte d'Azur
Powerful and partially electrified: modern combustion engines impress with strong acceleration and higher efficiency thanks to advanced mild-hybrid technology MHEV plus Pure driving enjoyment: A5 and S5 models deliver a new interpretation of the brand's signature driving characteristics Digitalization in the interior and exterior: new operating concept with MMI panoramic display and second-generation digital OLED rear lights with communication light
The new Audi A5 impressed numerous media representatives and many potential customers with its qualities at its world premiere. Now it is proving its qualities in the south of France: the model variants of the Audi A5 unfold their full potential on the winding roads of the Côte d'Azur.
The scenery is straight out of a James Bond movie: a narrow road winds through the French Maritime Alps between rugged, overgrown mountains. It leads through tunnels carved into the rock and features bends of all kinds, alternating between tight turns and long sweepers. The hinterland of Nice, France, offers the perfect setting to get to know the character of the new Audi A5 models. The roads of the Côte d'Azur are particularly challenging for the chassis and drivetrain of the new mid-size models based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) due to their profile. Powerful and partially electrified gasoline and diesel engines with MHEV plus The new A5 model series marks the launch of the first engines with the new MHEV plus technology from Audi – a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with powertrain generator, belt starter alternator and lithium iron phosphate battery.
The new Audi A5 models: modern sportiness meets premium proportions
It is offered in four new variants: as the A5 Sedan and S5 Sedan and as the A5 Avant and S5 Avant. These versions are the first models to be launched on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). Audi CEO Gernot Döllner on the new model family: “In tandem with the expansion of our all-electric portfolio, we are launching a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The Audi A5 family with its athletic design, completely new interior and future-proof electronics architecture will be the first. The advanced MHEV plus technology enables partially electric driving and therefore even more efficient driving.” The new models are growing in length and width. Audi is also expanding their standard equipment, positioning the new Audi A5 in the upper mid-size segment. The new user experience based on the 1.2 version of the E³ electronic architecture matches this aspiration. Optional equipment is bundled in various packages. Dynamic and muscular exterior design Even at first glance, the completely redesigned A5 family has a powerful and clean design. The modified proportions with a long wheelbase, large wheels and the low, sporty body embody progressive dynamism and premium standards. In the Sedan, the sporty, compact-looking greenhouse stretches to the rear in a sweeping arc, flows seamlessly into the shallow rear window in a coupé-like manner, and ends at the visually short tailgate with a striking spoiler lip. The rear hatch, which is new in this vehicle segment, offers a convincing symbiosis of design and functionality. It opens with the rear window and its size makes access to the luggage compartment considerably easier. This results in a completely new sedan concept for Audi.

DTM stars love the Audi A5
Whether as an A5, S5 or RS 5 – coupe, sportback or cabriolet – a total of seven models are available to choose from. The modern engine range spans from the particularly economical 2.0 TDI with 105 kW (143 HP) to the high-performance V8 with 331 kW (450 HP) used in the exceptionally sporty RS 5 coupe. The DTM stars competing for Audi in the 2012 season are A5 fans too. The two-time DTM Champion Timo Scheider was one of the first to place an order for the upgraded RS 5 – in white. The MMI navigation system is the most important accessory for the German who lives in Austria. “This makes traveling a totally relaxing experience,” he says. DTM rookie Adrien Tambay has ordered an RS 5 as well – in Daytona gray and fitted with 20-inch wheels. “My absolute dream car,” raves the Frenchman. Mattias Ekström is another driver who could very well picture the new RS 5, which he just had the chance to test, in his private garage. “But I’d definitely need an ISOFIX system for the front passenger’s seat,” says the two-time DTM Champion with a grin. “My son Mats always wants to sit in the front seat next to Daddy.” Edo Mortara already drove an RS 5 in his 2011 rookie season whereas his driver colleagues Filipe Albuquerque and Miguel Molina prefer Audi TDI Power. Molina’s current A5 is equipped with a 2.0 TDI engine and Albuquerque has just ordered a black A5 3.0 TDI with matte-gray 19-inch wheels. “That simply perfects the A5’s fantastic design,” the Portuguese enthuses about his car. For their new company cars on the race track, there are no extras though – as Audi Sport has installed them all as standard equipment. “The A5 DTM not only looks good but our guys have turned the A5 into a really good race car too,” Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich is convinced. “My hopes for the A5 DTM are to have a good race car in my hands that is in contention for victory right from the first race on and that will perfectly blend with the successful and elegant A5 family.”

Audi at the Detroit Motor Show: powerful trio kicking off the new year
Audi Q8 concept: luxury class SUV in coupé design Audi SQ5 TFSI: top model in the Q5 line with 354 hp Audi A5/S5 Cabriolet: intense driving pleasure coming in spring 2017
Audi is kicking off the new year with three highlights: with the Audi Q8 concept car, the premium carmaker is previewing a future production model at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. At the same time, the brand with the four rings is celebrating the world premiere of the Audi SQ5 TFSI* and publicly presenting the A5/S5 Cabriolet* for the first time.
A synthesis of coupé and SUV: the Audi Q8 concept Unsurpassed prestige and sportiness – that’s what the Audi Q8 concept represents. It combines the typical spaciousness of an SUV with the emotional styling of a coupé. Audi is tapping into a new segment in the full-size category with this car. At the same time the brand is offering a preview of its future direction in design styling with the concept car. Many elements are reminiscent of Audi’s original Ur-quattro from the 1980s, including the exceptionally flat and wide C pillars as well as the powerful, flared shoulders over the wheels. Despite the flat roofline, the show car offers plenty of room for four people as well as lots of luggage. Widely stretched lines lend the interior a sporty as well as elegant ambiance. The new control concept relies on large touchscreens, supplemented with an enhanced Audi virtual cockpit and a contact analogue head-up display that uses intelligent augmented reality technology to merge virtual indicators with the real world. For example, a navigation arrow will appear in the same position as an actual arrow on the street. The drive system and suspension feature high-end technologies from volume production. The powerful and highly efficient plug-in hybrid of the Audi Q8 concept provides total system output of 330 kW and 700 Nm (516.3 lb-ft) of torque. Power is delivered confidently to the road via quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
