Audi is launching a new brand in China: “AUDI” introduces first concept car Audi DNA and China innovations Revolutionary design, seminal digital systems
Audi is setting up for the future in China. To this end, the company is launching its first new brand alongside the Audi E concept: AUDI – without the four rings logo but spelled in four capital letters – signals both the connection to and differentiation from the sister brand. Based in and tailored for China, brand and car represent the best of both worlds – unmistakable Audi DNA meets China innovations. The AUDI E concept perfectly shows how an automobile can exceed Chinese users’ expectations. Gernot Döllner, Audi CEO: “By launching this new brand for electric and intelligent models in China, Audi is breaking new ground to tap into new and more tech-savvy customer segments.”
The first premium car brand to enter the Chinese market back in 1988, Audi was a pioneer. As it launches its new brand AUDI in cooperation with SAIC, the company now underlines its claim to this role. AUDI is shaped 100-percent by the Audi DNA and embodies “Vorsprung durch Technik” in the era of electric intelligent connected vehicles. The AUDI E concept car was jointly developed by experts from both Germany and China. It offers a preview of three future production models to be introduced from mid-2025. Largest transformation Audi CEO Gernot Döllner: “The automotive industry is undergoing the largest transformation in its history. With our partnerships in China, we are playing a decisive role in this transformation.” At the same time, Chinese premium customers are different from their international counterparts and have different expectations: they are younger than in the rest of the world. They are more tech-savvy. They expect leading connectivity as well as automated driving and, more importantly, an exciting, unmistakable experience in an interior that is both familiar and surprising.
Promising Brazilian talent will drive alongside Nico Hülkenberg Mattia Binotto: “Ideal combination of experience and youth” Bortoleto: “One of the most exciting projects in motorsport”
The driver pairing for Audi’s entry into Formula 1 in 2026 has been set. One of the most promising talents for the future will represent the four rings in the pinnacle of motorsport: Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (20) will drive alongside German Nico Hülkenberg (37) for Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber next year, which will transform into the Audi F1 factory team in 2026. The experienced Hülkenberg, who was confirmed in April, and the promising F1 rookie Bortoleto form a well-matched driver pairing for Audi’s Formula 1 project.
Hailing from São Paulo, Bortoleto made a strong impression in 2023 by dominating his debut season and winning the FIA Formula 3 Championship. He is currently leading the FIA Formula 2 Championship standings. His career began at the age of six in karting, and by twelve, he had moved to Europe with his family to pursue his Formula 1 dream. Joining the future Audi F1 factory team now gives Bortoleto the opportunity to show his talent at the highest level of motorsport. The team already confirmed German driver Nico Hülkenberg for the upcoming season back in April. With a balanced mix of experience and youth, the team is preparing for the transition to the Audi F1 factory team in 2026. Gernot Döllner, CEO of AUDI AG and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sauber Motorsport AG: “We are currently witnessing a generational shift in Formula 1, with young drivers immediately making an impact. By signing Gabriel Bortoleto, we have secured one of these top talents. His signing underscores Audi’s long-term strategy and commitment to Formula 1.” Mattia Binotto, COO and CTO of Sauber Motorsport AG: “Gabriel has already demonstrated in the junior categories that he has what it takes to be a winning driver. We are very pleased that he will become a team member of Sauber and Audi.
Thanks to the dynamic privacy mode, the driver cannot see distracting content, such as videos, while driving. If the front passenger display is not being used or if no passengers are detected, digital decor is displayed as a background image. In the base version, a black high-gloss surface is installed in this position instead. The Audi virtual cockpit has also been redesigned. In the future, the most important display – the central "round instrument” will be in the middle: It provides the driver with traffic-relevant information and always displays driver assistance functions while driving. In addition, the Audi virtual cockpit visualizes other road users and shows the situation the vehicle's sensors are detecting. The trip computer and the infotainment function controls are to the left and right of this. The driver can also switch between different views in the Audi virtual cockpit to create their own personalized display. Broadly, the new Audi virtual cockpit has been streamlined from the ground up and focuses on the essentials. Audi assistant and Android operating system Audi’s new MMI operating approach focuses on a touch-based concept with extensive voice control. The aim is to enable fast, safe, and simple operation at all times while driving. The new Audi operating concept follows the global trends in consumer electronics: more innovative functions are anticipated worldwide, while at the same time, the requirements for fully networked vehicle functions and voice control are also growing. Therefore, the information architecture on the 14.5-inch MMI touch has been completely revised: The menus have a flatter design, and settings can now be accessed with fewer clicks. The new dashboard combines the most important functions at a glance, provides recommendations suggested by artificial intelligence, and can be highly personalized by the driver.
